His thunderous clap can be heard from miles away. His enthusiasm for his craft is undeniable. For Los Angeles-born photographer Ivan Quiroz, each shoot is approached with an unbridled desire to learn something new, to gain a fresh perspective every time--no matter how seasoned he may be.
Never one to shy away from a good challenge, whether it's in photography or a heated game of ping pong, Ivan's images really do speak for themselves.
Below, we ask him a quick round of questions to get a glimpse of the guy behind the lens...
Boyle Heights in East L.A.
Who inspires you?
I get inspired as easily as I get excited. Musicians, artists, movies and my fellow photographers are all avenues that I gain a lot of inspiration from.
What is your favorite part of the creative process?
I love the planning process. It’s so reassuring to know that you are getting things in order before diving into the real work. Planning and organizing my ideas is a very important part of what I do, and anyone who knows me knows I like to get my shit straight!
Canon or Nikon?
Canon all day.
Favorite coffee shop/hangout :
I’m pretty hard to impress when it comes to food and drink because I've worked in some really good restaurants in my younger years.
Basically any place that has a great aesthetic, whether it be beautiful woodwork, concrete walls and ceilings or colors that make me feel energized.
One thing you always have on you :
I always keep a pouch of stones and crystals that help me channel my creativity and stay calm, confident and in an all-around good mood.
Your last meal would consist of :
Breakfast and Chinese food.
You could spend your entire paycheck on :
A mix of good denim and camera equipment. I love jeans even though I could and usually wear the same pair over and over again. I would buy nice jeans just to have them.
Your spirit animal :
In the Chinese zodiac, I am a Tiger...so obviously, my spirit animal is a bulletproof tiger.
